Amanda Peretich (TAS 2012) Visits NOAA Scientists at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center

Amanda Peretich (TAS 2012) was one of twenty teachers selected as a participant in the 2013 Siemens Science Teachers as Researchers (STARs) Program at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratories (PNNL) in July.

After two weeks of research immersion at PNNL, Ms. Peretich went to NOAA Fisheries Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) in Seattle, WA. She visited Neal Williamson and Denise McKelvey, two NOAA research fish biologists who were on NOAA ship Oscar Dyson during her TAS cruise in July 2012. The scientists set up lab tours and took her on a tour of the rest of the AFSC.

Ms. Peretich will use the data from the Summer 2012 Alaskan Pollock Survey as a primary source in the classroom to have students analyze/interpret the data, draw conclusions, and initiate future questions.
