Pacific Southwest Teacher at Sea Alumni Attend Workshop at NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center

NOAA’s Pacific Southwest Region Teacher at Sea Alumni (PSWTASA) Workshop was held on November 17- 19, 2017 in La Jolla, CA at NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC). Thirty-two Teacher at Sea Alumni (TASA) from the region (AZ, CA, CO, HI, NM, NV, and UT) attended this two-and-a-half-day professional development workshop in order to strengthen oceanographic content knowledge, build partnerships with NOAA scientists, gain knowledge about NOAA resources, and build an alumni network in their region.

PSWTASA toured the SWFSC, and learned about ichthyoplankton, large pelagic species, abalone, California Yellowtail, aquaculture, and much more. They also toured the aquarium, and ocean technology development tank at the facility. In addition, alumni toured the Maritime Museum of San Diego, presented posters to each other about their TAS experiences, and shared lesson plans.
