NOAA Corps Officer from Seattle, WA Visits Chris Henricksen’s (TAS, 2014), Fifth Graders in Westerville, OH

Eighty-five of Chris Henricksen’s (TAS 2014) fifth graders from Mark Twain Elementary School in Westerville, Ohio received a special visit from NOAA Corps Officer Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Theresa Smith on November 7, 2014. LTJG Smith is an alumnus of Westerville City Schools currently assigned to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service Alaska Fisheries Science Center (NOAA NMFS AFSC). She shared information with the students about her career at NOAA and information about estimating fish populations. Students also learned about fish distribution and NOAA opportunities in their state.

After attending Bowling Green State University for two years, and then transferring to California State in Monterey Bay, LTJG Smith went to work for NOAA. Having just rotated off of NOAA Ship Fairweather, she currently works in Seattle for NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center assessing fish habitat using sonar.
