TAS Alumni Explore Our World of Water at the National Marine Educators Association Conference

Jackie Hams, (TAS, 2011) and Angela Greene, (TAS, 2014) volunteered at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric (NOAA) booth during the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) Conference held in Newport, Rhode Island from June 29 – July 2.

When not at the NOAA booth, Jackie attended a session about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning with mini-boats and a NOAA session about understanding hurricane science.    “With all the lesson plans and valuable web links provided during the conference I should have no trouble revising my Oceanography lab class.” You can read Jackie’s NMEA blog here.

During the conference Angela presented a lesson plan about harmful algal blooms in freshwater systems. She also attended a session about the issue of microplastics in the environment that inspired her to create a Nearpod, an app that allows teachers to create content for students and gather immediate assessment data.
